Overview

"Carlo Van de Roer is a Los Angeles based, New Zealand born artist, working primarily with photography and film-making. His work involves intervening in photographic processes to consider their impact on our shaping of history and identity. By reconstructing optical, chemical, lighting, and code-based systems, he reconsiders their roles and potential. Van de Roer is the founder of a research and development lab with a focus on new technology for photography and film-making, through which he is the author and co-author of multiple patents.

His work has been exhibited at venues such as M+B Gallery, Los Angeles; Suite Gallery, Wellington, New Zealand; the MUSAC Museum of Contemporary Art, Léon, Spain; Transformer Station Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH; the Haggerty Museum of Art, Marquette University, Milwaukee; the New Museum, NY; Hyères Photography Festival and the Paris Photo Prize - a number of these institutions hold the artists work in their permanent collections."
