The fragility and vulnerability of New Zealand native birds has been a long-running theme throughout Crystal Chain Gang’s practice, and this is demonstrated with their recent creation ‘Te Kooti.'
As they explain, "the name 'Te Kooti' came from a story posted in the herald about a rescued tūī that became a fearless human companion to its rescuers so it was named after the mighty chief Te Kooti. We like the folklore connection and humankind's insistence of naming any wild animals they can."
